A hospital stay, and everything moving too fast
Hospital stays come with rapid changes, rotating staff, and decisions that sometimes get made before family has a chance to weigh in. If you live out of state, or you're simply exhausted from being the only one asking questions, it's easy to feel like your loved one's voice is getting lost.
What I do
I attend rounds and care conferences, ask the questions you'd ask if you had the clinical background, and make sure the care team knows someone is paying attention. When discharge day arrives, I help make sense of the instructions and get the right support in place before you leave the building — not after.
You shouldn't have to manage this from a waiting room chair, or from another state.
